Hi there! I’m Melanie.

I’m so excited that you’re here.

I can’t wait to tell you more about my personal story. Why? Because anyone who knew me in my early 20’s would never have guessed I would be where I am now.

I’m a Freelance Business Strategist and I want women around the world to know that your background does not define your future. Your life is meant to be lived now. And you don’t have to settle for anything less than the life that truly lights you up – no matter how big your dreams are.

I’m so passionate about envisioning and creating our dream lives because I’ve been the woman struggling and NEEDING more. Let me tell you about it…

my journey

I worked in restaurants and bars throughout my early 20’s. One day, someone asked me what I wanted to do with my life. I had no idea! I was a party girl who was making enough to get by and who didn’t really care about the future. But let’s be honest, paying your $500 rent 14 days late every month and making sure you have juuust enough money for tacos and margaritas doesn’t really count as a reliable career path.

I felt like I wanted more, a different lifestyle. I tried to tag along with anyone who was leaving home and moving away to whatever city seemed more exciting, but deep down I knew that I needed to create something that was mine, that I could be proud of.

I had no idea what I wanted to do. I started looking at work-from-home jobs. I tried MLMs… which can be profitable but just wasn’t my jam, some other weird shady online stuff (ha! nooo not what you’re thinking), and then in 2011 I landed a gig working with an online entrepreneur as their Virtual Assistant from a Craigslist ad. I found the flexibility of working from my laptop with that job allowed me to do some awesome things… like move from my hometown of Kansas City to Hawaii, California, and Florida (before I eventually came back home to Missouri after 9 years of traveling the country).

But the best part was that first work from home job ended up becoming a stepping stone to something greater. After about a year, I realized that even though I didn’t have to go into an office and could work from anywhere, I was still stuck to a 9-5 full-time job with that role. I ended up branching out on my own, which was scary at first. But I didn’t want to be an employee, even if it was on my couch in PJs. So I started my own business.

I chose to take what I had learned and start working with a multi-client workload of entrepreneurs. That allowed me to learn the ins and outs of several different types of online businesses. I saw what high-level business owners were doing to bring in 500K+ incomes (and quickly started seeing 6-8K months myself in my first year in biz — a big jump from the $9 per hour that first VA job was paying me). I saw their processes, their marketing, their teams, how they were handling their clients and everything in between.

I quickly fell in love with the industry and found my place in it, and by 2015, I had my own Launch Strategy Agency.  I now own a full-time agency with a consistent multi-client workload of amazing business owners that I love to work with, a six-figure income, and a six-person team helping me with the projects.

What I learned through this experience is that there are a ton of people looking for work-from-home jobs that need a format for where to start. That Freelance businesses (Virtual Assistants, Web and Graphic Designers, Copywriters, Project Managers, etc.) can make WAY more money than most are making currently.

I now work with new and struggling freelancers who either want to get started but aren’t sure how, or need to create stability in their current business through my beginners membership, Freelance Fast-Track Club, and my signature group coaching program, Freelance Strategy Method. Even if you don’t know what you want exactly, you can have more. Business should be fun and should give you exactly what you want from life. You deserve that.

fun facts about me!

02. meeting clients IRL

Being on Zoom every week with my amazing clients is great and all… but it’s so much fun to go to business events and meet clients in real life. I’ve traveled with a few clients and it’s always an amazing experience. Being around successful women is so empowering, and knowing the real-life people behind the businesses I support makes what I do mean so much more.

04. I’m very self-reliant

I have had to create a lot of trust within myself and my ability to overcome any obstacle. That is why mindset is a huge part of all of my programs. I had a mini-break down in 2020 when I was going through a divorce after 12 years of completely relying on someone else, and it changed a lot for me. But, it also has allowed me to get stronger, dream bigger for my own goals, and get fully on track with what I want for my own life. My goals and dreams are very important to me because they provide me security. I know that I can take care of myself, and I want that feeling of safety for other women as well.

06. I consider myself your business strategist, not your “coach”

I’ve been there. I’ve gone through it. But I just don’t resonate with the “coach” title. I’m more like a business partner and biz bestie who helps you to grow in the way that feels amazing to you. We don’t live in hustle culture here, we prioritize what works and invest our energy into action and forward movement. There are more than enough people telling you what you “should be doing”. My job isn’t to boss you around, micromanage you, tell you what’s wrong or right, or add even more things you don’t want to actually be doing to your neverending to-do list. My job is to help you figure out the right steps FOR YOU to build a business that aligns with your lifestyle and personal goals. So if you need support to start and grow your biz, I’m here for you.

01. I love to Travel

I love to travel and want to go everywhere. I moved to six states in five years! These days, I am settled in Kansas City, but still make it a priority to go on at least a few trips every year. Funding my adventures is a huge part of why I started my business and continue to work so hard.

03. Obsessed with animals & Palm trees

If you ever bring your dog around me, I absolutely will say hi to it before I say hi to you. 😉 My favorite birthday was getting to meet this penguin at the zoo in Tampa. And as much as I love my hometown, I totally miss palm trees… I am a beach girl at heart.

05. I put a lot of time and money into learning more

I believe that we are never done learning. We have to invest either time or money to figure out what we don’t know. I invest in coaching and programs myself every year to make sure that my skills continue to get better… and that I am learning from top experts that can shorten my learning curve. I don’t want to waste time, and I believe coaching is an incredible investment in my skill set and future. That means that I am up to date on industry trends, and continue to gain more knowledge and skills. It also means that I am able to help my students more as I continue to grow. It feels powerful and inspirational to me to keep improving both for myself and for you.
